When you think of an African American, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? If you pass one on the street, do you give yourself extra space? How many do you know personally? Have you done any research on their existence in America, other than word of mouth with friends or relatives?
That is just a few questions for non-Black people. If you are Black, and a conversation about African Americans comes up, how well could you clarify a false or misunderstood statement? How much positive information do you possess about your people, and their way of life? Would you be able to explain the negative and positive experiences intelligently? Everyone has an opinion, on this subject, whether they speak about it in public or not.
